On “Black Friday”—the so-called kick-off to the annual consumer shopping frenzy in the United States—members of the Grand Rapids Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World leafleted a Grand Rapids area Kohl’s department store about Bissell’s firing of warehouse workers outside of Chicago. According to Warehouse Workers for Justice, Bissell fired the warehouse workers after they filed legal complaints about their treatment and formed a union.
The local IWW decided to leaflet at Kohl’s because the Bissell headquarters are located near the store and because Kohl’s is one of the largest sellers of Bissell. In the following short video, two members of the IWW explain why they took action and what they did:
